Why You Should Totally Visit Albufeira, Portugal
A beautiful, chill, and affordable gem you didn’t know you needed.

Have you been dreaming of a place that’s gorgeous, not too pricey, and way less crowded than the usual tourist hotspots?

Let me introduce you to one of my favorite discoveries in Portugal — Albufeira! While it’s well-known among locals, it’s still kind of a hidden treasure in the grand European travel scene.

Here’s why you should definitely add it to your travel list:

1. It Has Its Own Airport (Score!)

A lot of cute little towns are hard to get to because they don’t have an airport. That’s not the case here! Albufeira has its own airport, and you can get to the Old Town in just 40 minutes.

Hot tip: Book a private ride on Booking.com. It’s affordable, super easy, and you can skip the stress of figuring out public transport after a long flight.

2. It’s Easy and Cheap to Rent a Place

I always recommend booking at least a month in advance to get the best deals — but even last-minute, there are great options.

We rented a fully furnished apartment for two, with a queen bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living room, patio, A/C, Netflix, the works, for only £591 for seven nights. And there were tons of similar listings nearby.

Sure, you can find even cheaper places (some with pools!), but check the location — a lot of those were out in the hills and needed a car. If you want a peaceful family getaway, they’re perfect – but for walking to the beach or town, stay central.

3. It’s Small but Full of Life

Albufeira may be a small town, but it’s buzzing with energy! You’ve got everything from late-night foot massages and clothing stores open ‘til 11 p.m. to seafood restaurants, grills, and nightclubs.

The best part? Nothing was ever overcrowded, and the prices were amazing. We’d eat a full dinner for two for around £25 total — yes, total! And many clubs didn’t even charge entry, so you could just walk in and dance the night away.

4. The Beaches Are Dreamy

The main beach in town was never packed — we always found space and never felt bothered. Some vendors passed by selling water or ice cream, but no one was pushy. It felt super safe and peaceful.

One thing to know: the water in southern Portugal is pretty cold, even in summer. But hey, with 35°C heat, that icy dip might be exactly what you need!

Sandy beaches, clean water, and no weird ocean critters crawling at your feet? Yes, please.

5. There’s So Much to Do!

Albufeira has a ton of fun activities — and they won’t break your wallet.

My favourite? A dinner cruise with included drinks. We cruised along the coast, explored secret caves, and then had a BBQ on a private beach surrounded by cliffs. There was a DJ, great vibes, and even small boats that picked us up at midnight to continue the party back on the main boat until we docked again in Albufeira. Highly recommend!

Another must-try: a kayak tour along the coast. You stop at amazing caves you can enter in kayak— so cool and totally worth it!
